About

Welcome to The Papered House! In Fall 2014, my husband and I purchased a c.1880 Victorian house in central New Jersey. From the moment we set foot inside the house, we appreciated the quality craftsmanship and historic details: ornate hinges, custom woodwork, pocket doors, and a hidden staircase. The decor was admittedly dated and nearly every room was covered in a collection of antique wallpaper. Some of the wallpaper patterns were lovely, and others were not. However, in many ways the house had aged gracefully: she had good, solid bones and many of the period details had been maintained. This blog chronicles our journey to return our home to its former glory. Along the way, we'll write about our restoration projects as well as some of our other house-related activities, such as decorating, cooking, and gardening. Our progress is bound to be a bit slow, given that my husband and I plan to do most of the restoration ourselves. Despite the slow pace, we know that this will be a labor of love and patience.

If you'd like to read more about the history of our home (and this historic photo), you may wish to read this post.
